I paint on a different face every day.
Smiling lips, pale skin,
eyes darker than tears—
I wear them all
and stand there, pretending I am all right.
But inside my heart,
two versions of me
keep calling to each other.
Even when thoughts like thorny brambles
seize my name every night
and tighten around my breath
like a black ribbon,
beneath the mask-like makeup,
there remains a face
that has not yet been erased.
